A Study on English Collocation Errors of Thai EFL Students

Collocation is an often-neglected language form that foreign teachers and students should focus on to achieve competence in a target language. In this research, the researchers studied purposely facilitate both second produce correct appropriate collocations. The purposes of research were 1) study collocation error levels Bachelor Arts English Business studying at Northern Rajabhat University, 2) relationship between first (L1) (L2) transfer errors students’ writing, 3) compare high-proficiency students, medium- proficiency low-proficiency students. sample included 285 Thai EFL enrolled second-year programs University during semester academic year 2021. instrument was test with 54 questions, which divided into 2 sections: 36 questions 4 multiple-choice tests, 18 translation questions. items chosen from Oxford 3000™, common vocabulary appearing various contexts. Research data analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test (Dependent), Friedman test.
 found level Grammatical moderate level, medium-proficiency high for Lexical errors, all three groups level; students’collocation caused by their (L2), synonyms, lack competency; most student Adverb + Adjective. For Collocation, could use Verb Preposition better than Noun Preposition, medium perform Adjective least, whilst low Preposition.
